Texas Dance Culture’s TAP Program
Quick Overview
The origins of tap dancing can be traced back to the U.S. in the mid-1800. During this time, a
mixture of African tribal, English, Scottish and Irish dancing were blended together to create the new
genre of dance art known as modern Rhythm Tap. Tap dancing became widely popularized in the early 20 the century by filmmakers in Hollywood. This resulted in tap dance becoming a mainstream form of dance art in the United States. Our tap class focuses on laying a foundation of strength, syncopation, rhythm, and precise movements for our dancers to be able to express themselves in this art form.
